2018 Zinfandel Ravens Woods Winery

Whatever the quality of the grape becomes that wine in every bottle. Here is a California Old vine Zinfandel; the grapes are “old vine” from the Lodi region. The bottle costs less than $20; it did not perform as an upper tier/ library level Lodi Zinfandel. It is a tasty Zin having berries and plum up front. It finishes O.K. with light tannin & cocoa. However, the winery recognizes differences by offering an Old Hill Vineyard old vine Zin @ $60. Another, Chauvet Vineyard, makes theirs for old vine Zin $ 42. These grapes were from Lodi, but probably not estate grown. A buyer faces choices whenever reaching for wine. Is a $ 20 what I want now; do I spend $ 40, $ 60, or more for a higher quality grape? In our T-L-C Dashboard ratings, “C-cost” per bottle is a key factor. Cost is the ultimate determiner; cost determines the lowest common denominator: price point. How much is a buyer willing to pay grapes in a wine?
