2018 Norton Dale Hollow Winery
Here is a pleasant surprise! It’s a Missouri Norton without the usual heavy tar and tannin taste. The wine is produced exclusively from Missouri Norton grapes with the winery setting in the Ozarks. I’ve uncorked many Norton bottles. Past results were from awful to acceptable. This ’18 was fermented in steel vats, rather than Missouri oak barrels. The wine resembles a grenache in looks and taste. The nose is herbal, lavender (Linalool). It rests easy on the palette with medium tannins. You’ll like the cherry and plumb. Like other Norton’s, the color is a very dark red, almost black. For anyone on the hunt for a Missouri Norton, try Dale Hollow.
