2019 Soave Classico Pieropan Dal

Hot summer days call for light spirited wine. Our usual picks tend toward Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, or Pinot Gris. Try sneaking in a Soave from Italy. The ’19 Pieropan Classico is produced by a small vineyard in the Northeastern region of Veneto. The winemaker harvests small batches, and then blends Garganega (85%) and Trebbiano di Soave (15%) grapes. And Soave wine is their specialty. Serving it chilled to 45° will bring a happy face. The color is a light straw yellow with really skinny legs. (A good side benefit is its light alcohol content, which means enjoying more leaves with no ill side effect.) Having it cold brings out pleasant aromas: delicious apple, almond, yellow dandelions, and it has a zing of acidity. Since grapes are fermented in glass-lined cement tanks, there are no tannins. Another smile comes at the check-out stand, because it is reasonably priced. Making it easy to buy, easy to chill, easy to serve, and a summer treat.
