2013 Della Valpolicella Estate bottled by Allegrini Fumane

This ’13 is a Valpolicella blend. It makes a good pairing with Italian Neapolitan Ragu sauce, and then add Italian meatballs. Well, O.k. How imaginative is this drinking an Italian red with a classic Italian dish, especially spaghetti and meatballs? This Valpolicella has a floral nose, white clover, that melds well with the basil. First taste gives a dark berry that enhances the simmered olive oil in Chardonnay wine. As this wine opens, there is dark chocolate which brings out the Asiago cheese. Its dark red color and strong legs fit well with the spaghetti swirling. But a word of warning: make certain your diners tuck those red and white checkered bibs under their chin. The red sauce and this red wine stain the best of clothing. And go ahead; dig into full plates, swirl the spaghetti, spoon the sauce, fork those meatballs, and then finish with this Della Valpolicella.
