2015 Red Wine Bootleg Wine Works

I went shopping today. Along the way, there was booth with wines on display. Plus, an attractive young lady was explaining the selections. Wine wasn’t on my shopping list, but wines always mandate a second look. I wanted to know if she had any old vine Zinfandel; she did not. Then, another shopper walked up asking about Merlot; she didn’t have any. She pointed out some the California wines on display. I asked if these were from Lodi, CA; they were not. Finally, I picked up this ’15 red blend by Bootleg Wine Works. When I drove into our garage, my wife’s car was there!... Amazing, she wasn’t in the malls shopping! Inside, I made the mistake of asking about her shopping adventures. But before she began “sharing”, I uncorked this California red wine. I poured us a glass each, sat, and listened. She traveled to several stores, which were crowed with other harried shoppers. She was excited about her wonderous finds and purchases. Listening to the shopping saga, I was amazed how she was able to read other people’s mind; she knew exactly what each person wanted, as well as which store that had it. (Note: she already shopped on line with amazing dexterity.) Pouring each of another glass, I learned how pushy some shoppers were, that some stores didn’t have the product she needed, and holiday drivers are nuts. Then, she began grumbling about having to wrap each & every package. Finally, she said with a sigh, “I’m tired”. Wine in the glass: talking and listening over a glass of wine smooths rough edges. Sipping wine makes conversations flow more easily, often happy. Her shopping adventures occurred over weeks; she relived these with glee; I listened in appreciation of her determined effort for individual attention. And our glass of red wine became the highway for sharing. Bootlegged: their ’15 is a blend of 85% Syrah with 15% Petite Sirah. The winemaker does not identify either as “estate grapes”. We enjoyed this red, which gave us several nuances. The flavors included currant, plum and Mocha. It has a smooth light oaky tannin finish. It works well with pleasant conversation, or serve with hearty meals.
