2011 Gran Reserva Rioja Baron De Ley Winery

The building was constructed in 1548 as a fort. ( note front label) Then, it became a Benedictine Monetary. Later still, Baron De Ley moved in. At present, this historic Spanish site ai a winery. Its wines are aged twice: first in oak barrels for two years, and later the bottled wine is “racked and caged” for an additional time. The label is dark gold with black letters, which fade into its brown bottle. Hiding information in plain site is the use of smallest font. I found it “a sinister method” of presenting information about the Baron’s wine. This ’11 Rioja is a Spanish Tempranillo of organic grapes. Its color is deep scarlet similar to habit of the Benedictine monks. Its nose is surprisingly fruity. In tasting, there is berry, plum, some tobacco, and spice: the wine has character. The finish is oak tannin. This is a drink-it-now bottle of wine. It would pair well with hearty foods. Plus, you could use the full dark gold labeled bottle as a Halloween center piece decoration.
