2018 Cuvee 5 Philippe Gisselbrecht, winemaker Pierre Brecht, Producer

How do the French nearly always over-think themselves? After war, after war, they began the “hundred Years” war between their nation against England. Much later, a queen lost her head by telling France’s starving peasants to eat cake. Then there was Napoleon, who became an Emperor; he lost his shirt when invading Russia during the winter. And notably, France declares war on Hitler’s Germany… after build the infamous Maginot line, which was "impervious to most" forms of attack. This question comes full circle to this bottled blend of white wines. How can the French mess up a Gewurztraminer grape? The other varietals added are Riesling and a very sweet Muscat; the blending of sweeter wines into a sweet wine is too darn sweet. The bottle is their Flute d’ Alsace with a catchy label. There is a fruity nose; there are good legs. The color is clean and clear. Then, first taste was granulated white sugar. The finish is sweet lingering tropical fruit. For those wine drinkers who are fans of light, very sweet wine, you will lick this’18 Cuvee from the bowl of your glass. As for me, I wander how the successful completion of Eiffel Tower in Paris ever happened.
