2014 Petite Sirah HandCraft

Location alters your wine choices. It makes sense. Proximity is the most important factor in choosing a wine. You might think French wines would be easier to get in France. I'm sure some are only available in France.

But what if you live in a busy shipping corridor?

I live in the very center of America. Major highways and railways move goods from coast to coast and from the Great Lakes to The Gulf of Mexico. A ten mile circle around my corkscrew would include a million bottles of wine in dozens of competing stores. If anybody ships it, I can get it at a discount. I confess, I am not too proud to drink grocery store wine. Around here, it can be pretty good.

Ten dollars and no extra driving put a 2014 California HandCraft Petite Sarah in my hand.

It was good. Not great, but still satisfying. The deep red color had sturdy legs and a soft feel as it slid across my tongue. It had enough tannins to be real and enough acidity to give it brightness. Can you say it was fruity without being able to name the fruit? It was a low sugar, mixed berry pie without the crust.

If I buy a Pay-Per-View movie for $5, I'll have a nice evening for under $20. I hope things are that good where you are tonight.
