2016 Shiraz Borossa Winemaker

We, humans, create problems. And thank goodness, we, humans, are problem solvers. This Borossa winery bottler has solved another nuisance. Their Shotfire Shiraz comes with a screw top cap, which doesn’t leak after opening! Usually, I do not want to drink the whole darn bottle of wine. But most screw top caps leak when laid on their sides. The problem is, “what to do with the remaining bottled wine”? If I leave sit out & open, it is ruined. If I lay it down inside my wine cooler, it leaks all over the place. Screw top are E-Z, cheap, and annoying. This manufactured screw cap is a winner! When laid on its side, the twist top cap does not leak! The bottle comes with a plastic seal across the opening. Then the screw top fits over the seal. When opening, twist off the cap, and remove the seal. When finished pouring, replace that seal & screw on its top. After opening and pouring, I replaced seal, twisted on the top, and laid the bottle down; it was leak-free. WOW! This is a robust Australian Shiraz (or Syrah in Europe). Its label reflects those macho miners, who worked downunder. It has a real earthy nose. First taste is dark fruit, then plum. You will find mocha with some sage. The finish is mild minerally tannin. The color is dark red as what to expect in a good Shiraz. Strong legs walk around the glass. Match this with Barbeque meats, beef stew, big hamburgers and even deer jerky. Here is a hefty wine that would avoid vanilla milk shakes.
