2018 Carolina Pinot Noir Leyda Estate
Red flags catch my eye. Two golden stickers on a screw top wine. One said, "Top 15 Powerful WINE BRANDS 2018" The other said, "Wine Spectator 90" Oh, one more red flag was the $9 price tag.
A closer look revealed it was a Pinot Noir grown in Chile. I had only seen Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vineyard says it was founded in 1873. Leyda is the lady that currently owns about 800 acres and produces about a million bottles a year. The link to 1873 goes back to the original owner whose wife was named Carolina.
Too many red flags do not matter as much as too much acidity. I couldn't get through a glass of it.
The origin of the wine does not matter as much as the thin feel it has in your mouth. I would not even cook with it.
The low cost of a wine is does not count when you throw it away and waste your time.
At least my red flag theories held up.
