2012 Barolo Monti Vineyard

Frankly, I was expecting more than I tasted when opening this bottle. I was hoping for music from a stringed duet, Viola and clarinet, playing “Arrivederci Roma”. No, but I did get that pop-of-the-cork.A few of these Barolo wines from Italy’s Piedmont region jump into that upper level, elite class: some sell for more than $ 1,000 a pop to more than $ 2,500 per bottle. Well, mine cost less than $100. No wonder the orchestra stayed home.This’12 was good, and I did enjoy the whole bottle. It was a Nebbiolo grape blend. The color was that deep red, had good legs, and there was a floral nose. First taste was fruit/berry. Some herbal flavors came to the front, followed by a tobacco tannin finish. & too bad the bottle was sealed with a plastic cork. I would not label this Barolo label a “grabber”, just a good Italian wine to serve with red meat, wild game, or pizza. It’s a drink it now red wine.T-L-C
