Blanc Lime La Famille Docourt

Welcome to Easter Week-end, ’19. What was the very first miracle done by Jesus? As told in the New Testament Book of John, Jesus was invited to a wedding. Then He turned ordinary drinking water into wine. We don’t know the varietal, but it must have made that wedding a very happy event. There are some churches that do not allow members drinking wine. And I bet their ministers use this wine miracle text to preach from. I have Catholic friends who give up drinking wine during their forty-day Lenten season. Yet, the Catholic Church serves wine at communion. If this were me, I would give up Chocolate cake, beer, fried hamburgers, or sex (well, that isn’t a real sacrifice anyway). This year, the French brought out a pop-wine: Blanc Lime. These bottles were standing alongside other wines, and it seemed odd. Looking more closely, it was clear the mix/blend of critic fruits with a dry white is “Nostalgia”. Blanc Lime is a throwback to the 1950’s, the period following World War Two. Parisian brasseries and cafes served this same lime-type wine. It was a simple wine fitting with fun and light conversations. Lime Blanc only has 8% alcohol content, and it pours with some fizz. Caution: once opened, the shelf life is only 5 days. Make certain that Blanc Lime is served cold, at least 50 degrees. There is more nostalgia with a crazy, different wine bottle. The stopper is held tight by a metal industrial wire lever. I had to use my two thumps pushing up on the lever against the neck. Then, the cork popped, which is a ceramic metal stopper. Because of the effervescent, there is a “pop” similar opening sparkling wine; that, too, is more fun. The nose is fresh lemon zest. First taste is light lemon. Later, there is grapefruit. Somehow, the winemaker got a smooth honey finish, even though old receipt called for Bordeaux dry white plus limes. The pour gives a very pale yellow in the glass. Blanc Lime may not be the wine of the First Miracle, but it fit the Easter Season. If you can find any, put a few bottles away for summer. Guests will enjoy the unique difference, flavor and that darned bottle.
