2015 Chaleur Blanc DeLille Cellars Winery

Two things grabbed me when I grabbed this bottle. First, this wine was a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (73%) and Semillon (27%). Second, DeLille Cellars is located just north of Seattle, WA, which lies off Puget Sound. Its grapes are not grown within Washington State’s famous wine country, Yakama or Walla Walla. The blend is a French process with the Semillon giving a heavier feel and different texture. Poured in the glass, it produced a light yellow, which differs from traditional Sav. Blanc’s clear and crisp color. These legs were skinny. As you know, curvy legs are nicer. The nose is earthy, wet oak. First taste was fruity, lemon, melon, and grapefruit. The finish is full-bodied with mild oak tannin. Call me old fashioned, but I like a crisp, unmolested Sauvignon Blanc compared to this blend. The winemaker is going after French style and succeeded. This blend would go well with shellfish dinners, mushroom barley soup, Gazpacho, or lamb. Buy and drink it, if you want.
