2018 Sauvignon Blanc Nautilus Estate Winery

This ’18 Sauvignon Blanc was a tad young, because it didn’t have hair growing under its grape-pits. And there was a little head when poured into the glass. The wine was imported from New Zealand’s South Island. For tonight’s dinner, we are pairing it with our main course: Orange Roughy. DYK: Orange Roughy is of one New Zealand’s main exported fish, and its fisheries hold a global gold standard certification. New Zealanders began fishing for this critter as early as the 1970’s. But, catch limits and catches have been decreased because of over fishing. Let’s find out if this New Zealand wine can match their New Zealand Orange Roughy. To start, the bottle had a screw top, while the fish was frozen; that’s a sum zero, equivalency. The wine: • Nose is a fruity apple. • 1st Taste is lemony, and then green apple followed by vanilla. • Its color was different for sauvignon blanc. In stead of that golden pink, • This ’18 was a pale white or a white beige. • Legs were slim & spindly. • Finish was smooth without lingering tannin. The ‘18 Nautilus white wine was good with the Orange Roughy in garlic butter sauce and capers. Because it’s so young, put some in your wine cellar for a year or two. Drink this on hot summer days or in your hot tub. It would work well with chicken and pork dishes. Braise some quail, pour the Nautilus.
