2013 Gattinara Travaglini Giancarlo Vineyards
That crazy, crooked, and bent bottle got me again. This Italian wine maker actually distorts the Cote De Provence bottle. Creating the looks of a drunk leaning on against a lamp post: sides smashed in, a bit twisted, off center. The wine, still standing, is Gattinara: Nebbolo grape. I liked its full body. There was a floral nose of lilac. Good color and legs poured in the glass. First taste had cherry and black tea. More tastings showed complexity of cinnamon, and clover. The finish was a dark chocolate oak tannin. Here’s a fun wine to pour & enjoy. Serve it with red meats. Buy it and keep it awhile. Later, when the bottle was empty, I carefully walked it to the glass recycle bin, lest it’s crooked ways and stagger might fall into breakage.
