2019 Red Wine Blend Cooper & Thief Winery

My first try at wine aged in whiskey barrels was a Pinot Noir by Cooper & Thief. The wine maker’s notes said it was “Jamy” with vanilla. Their red blend holds that same heavy sweetness. Their main claim-to-fame is placing different varietals into used whiskey barrels for at least a month. . After a wine has leached the whiskey flavor, it is bottled for sale. This red blend contains 16% alcohol.

Taste=2: Sweet red wines aren’t one of my favorite tastes.

Then I went on line checking other people’s tasting notes, which included: licorice, vanilla, chocolate, black berry, smoke, leather, earth tones, sugar plum, cherry, caramel, & syrup. One likened it to a Port, while another commented that it is not a sweet wine, but perfect.

Which proves if one drinks enough of this Red Blend, one can damn well find almost anything in its’ empty bottle.

Looks=3: Its presentation on the shelf is as unique as the wine. Cooper & Thief winery must have ordered a specially designed wine bottle. Their bottle resembles a barrel - - either for making wine or brandy. It has a shallow punt compared to other wine bottles.

The label is an in-your-face logo with a big barrel printed under the company name. For those who want to cellar this red bland, it has a genuine cork.

The pour happens as a very dark red, nearly black. Legs? oh, yea it has legs, which cling to the glass. The high alcohol level gives ‘em strength.

Cost=1: In drinking this red blend, a buyer can have an unusual wine time experience for around $20.
