2019 Chardonnay Michael David Winery

We’ve tried other Michael David wines. FREAKSHOW is one of the winery’s labels. For fame and fun, there is always a story on each varietal label. This very young Chardonnay comes out of the sea. The sea god, Poseidon, daughter found these luscious grapes. And she flagrantly sits on her throne, inviting buyers to taste her wine.

There were several stepped-process before bottling. The wine started in French oak barrels, and later transferred to American oak. From oak, it went into stainless steel. lastly, the wine went through malolactic fermentation.

All that effort is freaky, because it sells for less than $ 20 bucks. The winemaker used a twist top cap, making certain its price would not frighten a buyer. And make no mistake, here is a good Chard priced right.

First note: this is not an oaky Chardonnay. Having gone through malolactic fermentation eliminates heavy tannins. It tastes crisp with fruit forward. Lots of fruit like apricot and lemon. It is a sweeter Chard with honey and caramel, etc. It finishes smooth, leaving legs clinging along the glass.

Here’s another fine summer sipping wine. Freakshow Chardonnay is definitely a “Drink it Now” white wine.
