2014 Cobbieres Gerard-Bertand Winery
French winemakers do so many different applications to their wines. In this triune blend, they tossed in a favored grape: mourvedre. This rascal is mostly local; it is a dry sweet red that adds body & character. The French adore it so much, the mourvedrfe grape has a fan club, “conservatoire du cepage mourvedre”. The grape is used in some expensive French wines, which might explain the fan club. This specific three grape blend has generated a new wine term G-S-M: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Sometimes "GSM" is marked as a separate label. Here is a fun wine to enjoy. An added benefit is a genuine cork. Plus, the big mouvedre grape gives it longer shelf life. The nose is earthy, tanned leather. It holds a deep red color with solid legs. Fist taste is plumb, and then moon drop grapes. Further tastings found cherry, violet, and a hint of pepper. The finish was a dry seaweed. This wine would serve well with rabbit, veal, or pork shoulder. Buy it to enjoy now or save some in your wine cellar.
