2015 Chrysologur Pambrun Winery

Was this a bottle of wine or a work of art? The bottle is a first release from a newly acquired Columbia River Valley winery; it was a limited edition of 400 cases. Each bottle numbered and signature. The dilemma was whether to open it or hang it on a wall. There were larger numbered limited editions prints by Salvador Dali. (DYK: Dali made four renditions of his famous “St. George and the Dragon"?)

Also, notice in our photograph that the cork is laying astride the neck. Even this winemaker’s cork is a signature. If you want to know what a winemaker thinks of what is in the bottle, checkout the cork. Every cork tells a story. Oh, yea - - - about the wine! Needless to say, it was not disappointing. The nose soft fruit, blackberry. First taste has ripe Bing cherry followed by rich cocoa, and then smooth oaky tannin. Later tasting (sorry, a drink and another drink), there is currant along with mild tobacco. As would be expected with Columbia Valley wines, the color is deep ruby red, and this one stands on sturdy legs, clinging on crystal. Here is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab-Franc along with a splash of Merlot. This wine is for drinking right away. Plus, it is reasonably priced. Its designer cork will keep it twenty years. Gift it and become a renowned sommelier. It will fit with medium to heavy meals. This stuff is really good.
