2015 Vive-Clesse Baston De L’Oratoire Chaalsin Winery

2015 Vive-Clesse Baston De L’Oratoire Chaalsin Winery When is a Chardonnay not a Chardonnay? It becomes a “white Burgundy” wine when produced in Burgundy, France. Anyone can buy a California, Oregon, Washington, Australian Chardonnay, but only “white Burgundy” (Chardonnay) from France. The Domaine Chanson wines began in 1750’s, when the Dukes of Burgundy built Bastion de l’Oratoire; it is one of six fortresses. The local wine makers marched to their own beat, processing in their own styles. So, the Royals tried keeping them away from the wealthy. Was it because their wines were too good or were their wines too cheap? So, the French made a wine with another name. This white Burgundy is a blend, which must make it even more French. It tastes like a buttery Chard; it is fruity with no heavy oak tannin. The golden clean color stands on strong legs. It’s tasting include light lemon, mineral, and honey. The synthetic cork broadcasts the story of “drink in now”. (Of Note: Champagne is the official sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France, and there are plenty of other sparkling wines on the market.)
