2015 Malbec Dona Paula

Be suspicious of braggers. The 2015 Dona Paila Malbec had a swagger on the shelf. A dark copper foil with "DP" embossed monagram on the top. The label had a gold sticker that said, "90 points." It proudly stated the vineyard was 4,430 feet above sea level. They boasted of "intense" violet color, "pure" aromas of black fruit and violets. Dizzy Dean said, "It ain't bragging if you can do it." Dona Paula was bragging. It is a good looking bottle, but the 90 point rating was from eRobertParker.com. He says he is a wine advocate. I think that means salesman. Now you can use one of my quotes, "Its not lying, its marketing." The cork was good. The color was acceptable but not "intense". The legs were thin so it didn't have the smooth mouth feel I enjoy in a good Malbec. The nose was not pure black fruit and violets. It was average Malbec. I like Malbec. This was too tangy for me. Too much acidity seems wrong for a Malbec. Maybe others would disagree. I might like that in a white table wine, but not in a heavier red.
