2015 Etna Rossa Benanti Viticol Tori Vineyard, Italy

… Another fun wine tasting at our favorite Kansas City Italian Restaurant, Garrozo’s, where their bar tender knows his wine cellar. He opened this red blend, Etna Rossa. (Not understanding any Italian, I took it to mean “Etna’s red stuff”.) He said it was a lighter, fruity red, with light tannin. The pour was ruby red, and there were legs. The wine gave a pleasant fruity nose. First taste was definitely cherry, followed by Kiwi. Next, he poured glasses all around. We had one our adult kids dining with us. His favorite alcoholic beverage is beer, especially those new brewhouse inventions. He enjoys wine with us, and then he tasted. He said “Scrumptious” …. There’s a word I haven’t head in decades! The Enta Rossa wine was fruity but not like a Blackberry or Plumb wine. The vintner blended two varietals that were mysteries to me: Nerello Mascalese & Nerello Cappuccio. Italian winemakers do unusual thing with their grapes. By passing the beaten path of Chianti for Enta’s red blend was a fun and pleasant wine tasting adventure.
