2018 Sangiovese La Mossa Producer

Wines have travel stories much like human travelers. My wife and I dined at Lidia’s Restaurant, Freight House District, in Kansas City. We ordered a bottle of Sangiovese. The server opened and poured our first tasting.

She remarked that the restaurant was fortunate to have this wine. She explained that the Covid-19 situation caused a problem for them getting wines from Tuscany. This bottle came from a sister Restaurant in New York City. This very bottle traveled from the Montepulciano, Tuscany region to New York, and then to Kansas City.

The varietal, Sangiovese, was produced by the Fannetti winery, south of Florence, Italy. Oscar Fannetti owns this Tuscany vineyard, produces several varietals, plus has an extensive Eataly restaurant chain. Even the server remarked it paired well with our dinner entrée.

Taste=3: The nose was berry fruit. Tasting gave up ripe cherry with licorice. It’s finish wasn’t oaky, rather a smooth slate/ granite finish.

Looks=3: The color was deep red with good legs. The label is playful with its successive squares. The hanging fruit is too symbolic. Bottled for restaurant traffic users, it has a composition cork.

Cost=2: The “2” represents the price for table use. On-line prices run a bit less.
