2018 Petite Sirah Michael David Winery

The Michael David Winery produces from the Lodi AVA region East of San Francisco. The area has over 100,000 acres planted in wine grapes. The winemaker uses the “Lodi Application”, which has a positive effect on certain varietals grown there. Petite Sirah is one of those. which has its origin in France around 1800. His mix was 85% Petite Sirah and added 15% Petite Verdot.

The winery shows off its wine through a series of character art. These feature several various labels; each displaying Circus performers. Thus, their arty Freakshow labels include a special mention of “Michael David’s joint”. This red wine was as much fun as its talking elephants.

Taste=3: The pour is a raspberry, and tasting includes Lambert cherry, smooth fig, a hint of vanilla, followed by a smooth finish. Its fruitiness makes it more difficult with food pairings. In my small mind, here’s an enjoyable “drink-it-now” red wine.

Looks=3: The wine is a rich deep red, very clear. It comes in a heavy brown Cote De Provence bottle. Heck, the artwork is worth its price.
