2018 1924 Limited Edition Double Black Cabernet Sauvignon Gnarley Head

I like wine from Lodi, California.

It's good to start with a confession.

I like Single Malt Scotch aged in Madeira or Sherry casks.

What if you took a Cabernet Sauvignon from Lodi and aged it in a bourbon barrel?

This wine was made to entice and intrigue me.

Look at the manly marketing.

A matte black bottle with a black label,

Subtle gold lettering and a story to tell.

1924 was the year they planted the vines during prohibition.

The back label speaks to gangster history and how doctors

prescribed Bourbon to skirt the law. Who cares if it is true?

It is a great excuse to use bourbon barrels to celebrate the method.

Down to brass tacks. It smells earthy, like grape vines in rich soil.

It is so dark red, light barely gets through.

The taste is a tommy gun of complexity. The fruitiness is dark and dried like figs or raisins.

The sugars are burnt like toasted marshmallows.

The acidity pushes the burnt sugar to the curb in a long finish.

The tannin is just enough to drive you to another sip.

Some other wine guy would pair it with BBQ.

I would pair it with spats and Fats Waller on piano.

In 1924, he could make you smile.
