2015 Beringer Founder’s Estate Zinfandel

I’m on a Zinfandel kick…Zen is an ol-time traditional red. California seems to have corned the Zen wine market for the U.S.: good Zen at reasonable prices. This one is a fine zinfandel. It is dry, but starts with a floral nose. It begins rather sweet with very light raspberry. But, it switches on the pallet to a leathery finish… after all, Zinfandel ins supposed to be manly. After other swirls and tastings, some balck berry and licorice show up. Its color is deep red with nice legs. The mild tannins at finish do not get in the way of flavors. The wine is heavy and hearty…. a serious Zen for those wanting a good, metaphysical Zen experience. The downer is its composition cork! Sure would have been nice to store few bottles as keepers. Buy a bottle and rink it NOW. Rating: 88
