2014 Concannon Petite Sirah

I was disappointed as soon as I cut off the top filament on the bottle’s neck; there was a composition cork. I was hoping this petie shirah would be a keeper. Nope. it’s a “but it now & drink it now bottle, because this California winemaker didn’t believe it’s good enough for your wine cellar. O.K. I poured a splash into my crystal wine glass, giving it a good swirl. When I niffed the nose was most interesting: Tokay grape floated up, followed by a rosy floral. This Concannon wine had shallow legs…not those beautiful long clinging ones. There was a good dark red color. The initial taste was sweet on the pallet. Then, flavors moved to rich, full current. Further tasting found light chocolate with a smooth finish. I would have given this petite shirah a higher rating, except for that composition cork. Rating: 81
