2015 Robert Mondovi Zinfandel - Private Selection

A “private selection” zinfandel: that has to be a good one. The label was upscale too. Then, I uncorked the bottle. Dang! A plastic 1-cent cork came out. Immediately my inner voice told me it was “a drink now” zinfandel. If a wine is really good, it deserves one the many more expensive corks.

This California Zen was O.K. the nose was fruity and good legs. The color poured out deep red. Swirling it around gave off a fruity nose…. But, I’m still holding that damn plastic cork. The first tasting found some plumb, good raspberry and a full tannin finish.

Doing some real drinking, black liquorish came through as well as heavy earthy oak. Rating: 82
