2017 Italian Red Wine Bruno Ciacosa Wines

Much of the wines produced by Italian winemakers are intended for meals. This Barbera is made for rich food pairings. It comes from Northeast Italy’s D’alba DOC of piedmont. Cost per bottle is quite reasonable, especially searching for other Italian classic reds. Winemaker Bruno Ciacosa produces elite level wines that sell for more than $1,000 per bottle. Mid-range prices run from $500 to $350 per bottle.

This bottle shouted, “Take me to dinner.” Pour a glass with your favorite pizza; have it with cheese ravioli or tortellini with marinara sauce. Even good old-fashioned spaghetti and meatballs will taste better.

Taste=3: Opening this red wine has a soft red fruit nose. The pour is a lean light red, and with skinny legs. There’s a red cherry taste to begin, which mellows into raspberry. It was ready to go to dinner.

Looks=3: The label features a Crusader’s Castle flying the flag of Italy! And the winemaker’s first name is Bruno, and it’s a long-established Italian winery.

The bottle comes with all those impressive DOC seals. I served it chilled, ready for tasting. The lighter red color came as a surprise, in that Italian reds usually pour a deep crimson red. It is bottled with a genuine cork for cellaring.

Cost=2: It’s a medium price to pay for a good bottle of Barbera varietal wine.
