2017 Cabernet Franc NorthStar Winery

Smooth; the NorthStar winemaker got this one right. He got all those basics meshed into the wine - - balanced earth tones with black fruit. This is not a red blend.

Taste=3: Cab Franc is one of those fantastic red varietals. Some winemakers put into a blend and others put it into oak barrel for along the wine can be made to taste differently according to geologic location as well as application.

NorthStar, in Walla Walla, took their estate grapes, squished them into this very tasty red wine. The first pour was deep red with great legs. Tasting found the dark fruit as well as black cherry. It wasn’t difficult liking the light green vegetable on the pallet.

More appeal got added with its delicate texture. Tannins were quite light, meaning the darned glass was empty!

Looks=3: Here is an attractive red wine, and it’s meant for drinking. A buyer could cellar bottles, because the winemaker used a genuine cork and a dark brown bottle. The label gives basic information. (Anyone remember the 1967 TV series of “Dragnet”? Sgt Friday only wanted, “Just the facts”.)

The Walla Walla region grows very good Cab Franc grapes. This NorthStar will pair well with cheeses, red meat, wild game, and roasted chestnuts over an open fire.

: A buyer could pay more for a French Cab Franc produced in Bordeaux, and drink their more costly Bouchet. However, this is a very good Cab Franc for the price. A person could give it as a gift, drink-it-now, cellar a few bottles, as well as pair with food.
