2017 Cab Franc/Malbec Bodegas Tonels

Two powerful varietals blends come together into another good wine. The grapes come from high elevations of the Pedernal Valley, Argentina. The winemaker used a 60/40 mix: Cabernet Franc & Malbec.

As one would expect, it’s a substantial red. The nose is floral. Tastings got into currants, dark fruit and earthy herbs. Either grape makes good drinking wine; the mix complements the strength of each.

Served chilled with pairings of red meat and wintery stews. Even with its composition cork, this red could hold for a few years in a cellar.
