2015 Pinot Noir Robert Mondavi Winery

The Big Batch productions give a winery a bigger profit; it happens by using large lots of harvested grapes. The winemaker needn’t focus on elegant harvesting nor sophisticated fermentation. The primary aim is delivering a marketable product at the lowest possible expense to the most buyers.

Robert Mondavi Winery is the first major winery developed in Napa Valley after Prohibition times. The winery produces outstanding, top rated “Reserve” wines. Buyers can order Cabernet Sauvignon at $175 per bottle. Their Reserve Napa Valley Pinot Noir ranges from $50 to $67.50 per bottle.

Their big batch Pinot Noir is a different story. It shows as an ordinary bottle of red wine. It’s nose is standard Pinot Noir; color is an OK deep red; no legs cling to the glass, but the taste has red berry, cocoa, and critics with a light tannin finish.

I found it thin, when tasting; not very complex.… Best to add another twenty bucks to buy an estate Pinot Noir.
