2015 Momma Mia Red

MAMMA MIA stands out on its label. A buyer can assume this is an Italian wine. And it is, a product of Italy (Vino D’Italia). In trying it, this buyer learned it had no resemblance to the Broadway production nor the movie, “Mamma Mia”.

One of the musical’s enticing songs was “Take A Chance on Me”. The second chorus goes….

If you're all alone

When the pretty birds have flown

Honey I'm still free

Take a chance on me

Gonna do my very best

And it ain't no lie

If you put me to the test

If you let me try

Take a chance on me

Well, I did take a chance, and this red wine wasn’t nearly as fun as Mamma Mia’s music. Italian wine makers have fun with their varietals. Whatever grapes are in the ’15 red blend isn’t fun. The tasting didn’t make my feet tap nor face smile. Tasting notes reflect plum and red berries, which would make for a joyful experience. I found more minerals, tobacco, and heavy tannin.

“Disappointing” is the word I’d use to express this bottle of MAMMA MIA red.
